May 31st, at Éditions PGCOM, « The Quadrature of the Circle », Volume 1 of the “ Saga of the Star-Men », a new Series, written by Colette Mourey.
1.From Leisure to Awareness
The novel, modern and initiatory , comes from a reflection ecological and humanistic >: Questioning the becoming of our consumer societies, as well as our civilizations in deep rupture with their biotope.
The narrative features city-dwellers who are inseparable from their robot-servants and the holograms they shape (the primacy of “ Virtual Reality “) , while they wander, prisoners of a symbolic “Capital” devastated by the fighting, partitioned into antagonistic tribes: they are the few survivors of a tragic “ Third World War “, which will be all the more cruel and essentially spontaneous and clannish – communities throwing themselves on top of each other.
In front of them, the “Fathers” and “Mothers”: occupied, in the “ Domaine ” agricultural – with the valuable contribution of the Spirits of Nature , to reinstate a sufficient biodiversity , from the seeds kept in a World Reserve – vast Genetic Data Bank.
All of these Terrans have the “ Don ” ability to materialize , with a gesture, the object of his desire.
At the macroscopic level, the incessant human conflicts intermingle with the intrigues emanating from Alliances from multiple divergent extraterrestrial communities some of whom will seek to profit from a primitive human race, while others will work generously towards the fullness of its development.
Finally, the Great Catastrophe , so much announced, will only happen: switch pole poles, wake up volcanic monsters, tornadoes and tsunamis … completing the total devastation of a planet already ravaged, both by massive deforestation, and by pollutions of all kinds, which corrupt all the constituents of life (water, air, earth …) – the worst being plastics, heavy metals, radioactivity, electromagnetic disturbances … not to mention the residues of nuclear, chemical, viral wars …

2.Why “La Quadrature du Cercle” ?

3.Paradigms of the plot :

However, to their credit, the Terrans hold a fabulous “Power”, awarded by a Venusian scholar: that of materializing, instantly, the object of their desires, with a simple gesture. With the “Gift”, despite the sterility of their Planet, they can feed themselves and their basic needs. Will they make good use of it? Will they grow or degrade it?
Even before the outbreak of the “Third World War” (a planetary, literally “tribal” civil war, the most cruel one ever experienced), the “Powerful” people together fled to Mars to colonize this promising star – the space probes, sent in number, having detected the presence of water. However, their space fleet struggles to evolve, since it finds itself, inadvertently, under the supreme command of Marcus, the leader of the Triad! constantly engaged in betraying, to ensure total supremacy. In view of the many detours and incidents that are multiplying, the interplanetary journey of men of power is not irremediably doomed to failure?
Without these being aware, many extraterrestrial civilizations allies are constantly interfering in human affairs, guided by large characters: including Angel “the corrupt” – which attracts the support of the underworld and whose power rests on the dogmas of the Magi and Magicians; or Vulcor, the spiritual father (and probably biological – since Djino is only his adoptive father) of Django: after a period of distrust, this generous mentor wants to contribute to give back to humankind its lost dignity. But will the human race be able to grasp this pole that is stretched to it?
Other Pacific Entities, emanating notably from Flora and Fauna, seem to succeed in delaying the emergence of an inevitable conflict, which could only be of immediate Cosmic scope. Again, will we escape? Is life promised to continue?
Adjoining the capital, the agricultural “estate” in which our heroine, Ambroisine works, is dedicated to restoring the biodiversity of the origins, by cultivating the seeds gathered in the “World Conservatory”. The “Fathers” and “Mothers” who implement the project have all been chosen because they possess a “sixth sense” that is sharpened, allowing them to perceive and communicate with the Spirits of Nature, benefiting widely. their support. However, their noble enterprise, as vital as it is desperate, is not, from the outset, doomed to failure? Have not we already reached a point of no return?
Betraying its own community, the rural Ambroisine unites with the city dweller Django. Through them, will the two major types of human civilizations merge? The antagonisms will they not, rather, exacerbate? And will their love endure so many trials?
Lastly, the so-called “Great Catastrophe” can only happen! In spite of the certainty of an efficient extraterrestrial intervention, would it leave survivors? In what state would they end up? Would they have the capacity and energy to rebuild a human civilization worthy of the name?
Perhaps, if he survives, the child of Django and Ambroisine, Xabat – synthesizing a triple lineage – “city”, “rural” and Venusian, could embody the only possible Redemption of a humanity at the end of breath …
4.Summary of the Work
Post “Third World War”, in a ruined capital, where weave and tangled concrete and virtual, men and robots compete ingenuity: however, which one will be freed from the other? As for the perpetual guerrillas, they form a bitter counterpoint to intergalactic conflicts. Yes, it would really take a “Savior”, to ensure a decent future for civilization, on a planet long destabilized and defiled, on the threshold of a final ecological “Great Catastrophe”. However, even at the very depths of these dark darkness comes a Birth, called to change the course of events.
